Charges

The charges brought against Mohammed Hazim were:

Charge 1: Failing to maintain high standards of professional conduct and/or behave with honesty and integrity.

The particulars to the charge were that on and after 17 January 2013 Mohammed Hazim, a graduate Member of CILEx submitted two reference letters to ILEX Professional Standards Limited purporting to be from Duncan Lewis (solicitors) in support of a waiver application to become a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives. These two letters were found to be forged.

Charge 2: Failing to maintain high standards of professional conduct and/or behave with honesty and integrity.

The particulars alleged that on and after 17 January 2013 Mohammed Hazim, a graduate Member of CILEx, stated to ILEX Professional Standards Limited* in his waiver application to become a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives that he had worked for Duncan Lewis and Co Solicitors on/or between October 2012 and April 2013. This was a false statement.

Outcome

Both charges were found proven.

Sanction

The Disciplinary Tribunal ordered that Mr Hazim be excluded from membership indefinitely and that an application for reinstatement as a member should not be considered for a minimum period of 5 years from the date of the order.    

Appeal

Mr. Hazim appealed the decision of the Disciplinary Tribunal.  The appeal was unsuccessful.
