CILEx Regulation reappoints Chair Sam Younger

29 October 2018

Sam Younger CBE has been reappointed Chair of CILEx Regulation, the independent regulator of Chartered Legal Executives, other CILEx members, CILEx Authorised Entities and non-members with Practice Rights.

Sam first took up his post as Chair on 1 November 2015, with lead responsibility for strategy and finance. During his first term he led the Board in securing licensing authorisation for Alternative Business Structures.

Sam is Senior Independent Director of the Advertising Standards Authority, Chair of Voluntary Service Overseas and Public Interest Observer on the Council of the Chartered Institute of Taxation. He had a 20-year career at the BBC, where he was Managing Director of the BBC World Service. He was subsequently Director General of the British Red Cross, inaugural Chair of the Electoral Commission and Chief Executive of the Charity Commission for England and Wales. He was appointed CBE in 2008.

Sam said: “I’m delighted to be embarking on a second term, as we meet the challenges and opportunities of a rapidly changing legal services environment in which, I’m convinced, the Chartered Legal Executive community has an increasingly central role to play.”

CILEx Regulation Chief Executive Officer, Helen Whiteman, welcomed Sam’s reappointment, saying: “I am delighted to be working with Sam for his next term. We have made great strides in delivering the Board’s strategy which has a strong focus on the consumer of legal services. Sam’s experience and knowledge helps us to deliver regulation to individuals and businesses which is proportionate and fair."

Sam’s new term begins on 1 November 2018.
